What to expect on template day and install day

From the 3D laser measurement to the day your countertops go in: what happens, how to prepare, and what to do afterwards.

Once you've picked your stone, two visits turn it into countertops: templating, when we measure, and installation, when we put them in. A little preparation makes both go smoothly and keeps your project on schedule. Installation is typically within 7 days of templating.

Template day: we measure with a 3D laser

Our templater uses a 3D laser to map your cabinets and walls exactly. It takes the guesswork out of measuring and gives our shop a precise digital template to cut from.

Before we arrive

  • Base cabinets fully installed, level and secured. We template the cabinets as they are, so they must be final.
  • Sink and faucet on site, or their spec sheets sent to us. Undermount sinks are needed to cut the opening exactly.
  • Cooktop or range on site, or model numbers ready, plus any other appliances that affect the stone (dishwasher, slide-in range, built-ins).
  • Old countertops removed, or tear-out booked with us. For an added fee, we tear out your old tops on install day.
  • Clear countertops and cabinet tops, and a clear path to the kitchen.
  • Someone 18 or older on site who can approve seams, overhangs and edges.

Decisions to make

  • Your edge profile
  • Overhang depth for seating
  • Backsplash: 4-inch, full height or none
  • Faucet and soap dispenser holes
  • Waterfall or mitered ends, if any

Want to see exactly where seams and veining will fall before we cut? For an added fee, we can lay your template over a scan of your actual slab.

Install day: your countertops go in

Before we arrive

  • Your balance is paid in full before your install date.
  • Sink, faucet, cooktop, dishwasher and range are on site. If they're missing, a return trip will be charged.
  • Plumbing and electrical are disconnected by your plumber or electrician. We don't do plumbing or electrical work.
  • Support brackets for overhangs, bars or floating vanities are installed by your contractor. We don't install support brackets.
  • Counters, cabinets and a path for our crew and the stone are clear.

During the install

  • If you booked tear-out, we remove your old tops first.
  • Our crew sets, levels and secures every piece, then finishes the seams and cutouts.
  • Need dishwasher brackets? We can supply and install them during your install for an added fee. Because they attach to your cabinets, we're not responsible for cabinet damage.
  • Walk the finished tops with our crew before they leave. Any concerns must be reported at install.

After installation

  • Have your plumber reconnect the sink, faucet and dishwasher.
  • Give seams and sink silicone about 24 hours to cure before heavy use.
  • Don't sit or lean on unsupported overhangs.
  • Expect some dust; a quick wipe-down finishes the job.
  • Your stone was sealed in our shop, so just follow our care guides.
